Maersk Line Announces Rate, Congestion Surcharge Changes

Maersk Line will implement a general rate increase from India to Latin America on Feb. 1. The increase will be $200 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot container.

The ocean carrier has also revised the effective dates of its congestion charges to and from the U.S., which will be implemented in the event of an International Longshoremen’s Association strike. Maersk had recently postponed the effective dates, but has revised them again. For imports and exports at East and Gulf Coast ports, charges will take effect on Feb. 6.; for imports at West Coast ports, charges will begin on Feb. 20; and for exports at West Coast ports, charges will begin on Feb. 27.
