THE Port of Rotterdam Authority has reported that Strabag Nederland has started building the quay for Container Transferium Alblasserdam, which is expected to be delivered to terminal operator Binnenlandse Container Terminals Nederland (BCTN) at the end of 2014.
The port authority signed a contract last year with BCTN for the operation of Container Transferium Alblasserdam, saying construction of the quay was delayed mainly due to poor soil conditions. It now hopes that BCTN can start handling containers at the beginning of 2015.
The grooved-in quay is 255 metres long and recessed 30 metres on the Noord River. Behind it is the four-hectare terminal at Nieuwland business park, close to the A15 motorway. The Container Transferium, which was announced in 2009, is intended to relieve the A15 motorway of 200,000 TEU a year.
The Port Authority also said it is in talks with various parties about the adjacent sites which spread over seven hectares, though no contracts have been concluded, reported London's Port Finance International.
The Port Authority is interested in parties from the logistics sector which can strengthen the Container Transferium.
