Zim talks cooperation with G6 on the Asia-northwest Pacific routes

ISRAELI flag carrier Zim Integrated Shipping has been in talks with the G6 Alliance about expanding its role on the Asia-Pacific northwest route, Lloyd's List reports.

Zim already has a partnership on the route with Hapag-Lloyd, NYK and OOCL, when teamed up with the New World Alliance of APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL two years ago, which they became the G6 on some trade lanes.

Zim already cooperates with the G6 on Asia-US east coast services and the talks come at a time when the alliance is re-configuring itself to compete with the Maersk-MSC-CMA CGM mega alliance called the P3, which is now subject to regulatory scrutiny in Europe, the US and China.

The restructured G6 is to start operations in the second quarter, pending Federal Maritime Commission approval.

Zim CEO Rafi Danieli said he would welcome the chance to join one of the big alliances if an opportunity arose.
